VISAKHAPATNAM: Nookala Venkata Prabhakara Sarath of Sri Chaitanya Junior College emerged as the only Vizagite to make it to the top 10 ranks of the Gitam University Admission Test (GAT-2014), standing at second position in the list that was dominated by candidates from West Godavari and Hyderabad.
While GVD Sai Krishna of Sasi Junior College of Velivennu in West Godavari topped the exam, the results of which were declared on Wednesday, Mammaneni Sai Yashwant, also from the same college in West Godavari, stood third.
Apart from three top 10 rankers each from West Godavari and Hyderabad, one candidate each from Guntur, Vijayawada and Rajahmundry too made the cut.
A total of 70,000 students from 28 states were in the fray for the nearly 5,500 seats in the three Gitam campuses at Vizag, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, vice-chancellor Prof G Subrahmanyam said on Wednesday.
According to him, the top 10 rankers in B Tech will get 100% fee concession, while the next 90 will get 50% concession.
The Gitam VC clarified that the admission to the 10 B Tech programmes, 15 M Tech programmes and the B Pharmacy programmes offered in Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad and Bengaluru campuses was based on the performance of students in GAT-2014 .
He said 25% of the seats were reserved for meritorious students from Karnataka for admission to the Bengaluru campus.
“The first rank holders of the central and all state board examinations, equivalent to 10+2, will be given admission to the course of their choice without the need to appear for GAT-2014, subject to eligibility criteria,” he said.
Online counselling for BTech programmes would be conducted in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Hyderabad and Bengaluru from June 11 to 16 and the counselling for the M Tech and M Pharmacy programmes would be held on June 17.
