VISAKHAPATNAM: The city and state units of major political parties on Tuesday welcomed the Indian Air Force’s strike against terrorist targets in Pakistan.
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s city unit organised a fireworks display here to celebrate the event.
Earlier, the BJP organised a meeting, which was attended by state unit president Kanna Lakshminarayana, party’s in-charge for AP, P Muralidhar Rao, MLA from Visakhapatnam North P Vishnu Kumar Raju, and other leaders.
They congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ordering the air strike on Pakistan, party sources said.
While the YSR Congress did not hold any public meeting on the air strike, Malla Vijay Prasad, president of the city unit of the YSR Congress Party, said that the strike was the “correct response” to the attack on a CRPF convoy in
Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir, on February 14. “All nations committed to peace should join hands to fight and eliminating the scourge of terrorism from their lands,” Vijay Prasad said.
The Telugu Desam Party, which exited the National Democratic Alliance government in March last year over the non-granting of a Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh, also welcomed the air strike, though the party spent most of its time at a meeting to criticise both the YSR Congress and K Chandrasekhara Rao, the
Telangana chief minister.
