Visakhapatnam: Cyber crooks duped over 30 people, including a physically challenged youth, on the guise of providing loans at low interest rates. Among the victims were a man who wanted a personal loan of 4 lakh, and a software professional who was duped of over 2.5 lakh through investment fraud. A woman was contacted by the fraudsters, who offered to provide her a loan of 5 lakh at just one per cent interest.
The woman was asked to pay a processing fee which she was told was refundable. Believing them, she transferred over 4 lakh to their accounts before she realised she was cheated.
Cybercrimes police station inspector K Bhavani Prasad said they have received over 30 complaints related to loan frauds.
He said Vizagites have been cheated of nearly 60 lakh on the guise of providing loans. TNN
