VARANASI: Ram Awadhesh Singh, a member of the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC), claimed that harassment of members of the backward classes had increased in UP.
Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Singh said maximum complaints of harassment of OBC people were reported to the commission from Madhya Pradesh. The UP was on second position on the list while OBC people were also facing similar harassment in West Bengal and Bihar.
He said programmes being run for the development of OBC were proving insufficient.
Singh had also visited Ghazipur district in the morning to probe into irregularities committed in scholarship distribution. He said scholarships of 92 OBC children of Ma Sharda Public School were transferred to Ramesh Memorial School there. He denied to disclose his probe report but admitted that the complaint was true.
