Bakrid Preps: Security beefed up, 94 vehicles deployed to maintain cleanliness
Varanasi: The Varanasi Municipal Corporation has prepared a special action plan to maintain cleanliness and safeguard public health in view of Bakrid. Under the plan, elaborate arrangements have been made for prompt disposal of the large volume of waste generated following qurbani.
The civic body has identified 79 locations across the city where waste generation is expected to be higher after qurbani.
According to municipal authorities, as many as 94 vehicles (DP containers, compactors, hoppers, Tata S, tractor-trolleys, loaders and dumpers) have been deployed on special duty for garbage collection from these designated sites. The transport department has been directed to ensure that all garbage-carrying vehicles are covered with tarpaulins so that filth does not spread along the way. In areas such as Jaitpura, Alaipura and Bajardeeha, where qurbani takes place on a large scale, the corporation has separately deployed 95 sanitation workers and 8 sanitation supervisors to ensure excellent cleanliness arrangements.
Apart from this, special deployment of nala gang personnel has also been ensured. Dedicated pits have been prepared at the Karsada Plant for the safe and scientific disposal of waste. Sanitation and food inspectors have been assigned round-the-clock duty on a rotational basis to ensure uninterrupted monitoring and supervision. To prevent foul odour and infection after cleaning, an ample stock of pesticides has been stored, which includes 1,200 bags of Malathion powder, 700 bags of bleaching powder, 50 tonnes of lime powder, 500 litres of phenyl and 15 tonnes of rock salt. The garbage will be deposited into pits and capped with soil mixed with these chemicals using an excavator machine.
A help desk has been set up at the control room for quick resolution of public complaints.
The police administration is also on alert to ensure that the festival is celebrated safely and peacefully.
DCP Varuna Zone Pramod Kumar, ADCP Lipi Nagayach, ACP Apurva Pandey and Cantt police station in-charge Raj Kishor Pandey, along with all outpost in-charges, conducted foot patrols across various areas, including Mint House, Nadeser, Ardali Bazar, Pakki Bazar and Kachehri to review the security arrangements. During the patrol, police officers appealed to people to maintain peace and harmony. Intensive checking of suspicious individuals and vehicles was also carried out.
