VADODARA: The mystery over the death of a city-based businessman deepened on Tuesday after it came to light that he had two wives. The deceased, Mukesh Thakkar, had married a woman named Rekha in Vadodara without divorcing his first wife Meena, who lives in Surat.
Initially, it was believed that he committed suicide, but police are now probing the possibiilty of Thakkar being murdered.
Meena has alleged that Thakkar's second wife Rekha is behind the murder.
"The first wife and family members of the deceased came to claim his body on Tuesday. We have learnt that Thakkar had married another woman with whom he was staying in the city," said Sayajigunj police inspector MT Solanki.
"Meena has alleged that Rekha is responsible for the murder. We are now investigating the case from all angles," Solanki added.
Interestingly, the post-mortem report of Thakkar didn't reveal any cause of his death. "We didn't find any injury marks on his body and hence thought that he may have consumed poison. Even the post-mortem report is not clear on the cause of death. Now, we will send samples to FSL in Gandhinagar for detailed analysis," Solanki said.
Sources said Thakkar, who was suffering from diabetes, may have died of high dose of insulin. Thakkar's body was found from the backseat of a black Hyundai car in Alkapuri area on Monday afternoon.
According to Thakkar's family, he and Meena were married for last 25 years and had a son and daughter. Thakkar met Rekha about a decade back and got married with her in a temple. He left Meena and started staying with Rekha. Sources said that Rekha, too, was a divorcee and she had met Thakkar when he came to meet her father.
