Trichy: Two people were killed and four others injured when a speeding car rammed another vehicle, causing it to crash into a group of people standing near a shop in Thottiyam, Trichy district, on Monday.
According to sources, the accident occurred in front of a meat shop run by Anbazhagan in Kattuputhur, Thottiyam taluk, Trichy district. Meanwhile, Kaushik, 35, a resident of Namakkal, was driving his car along with his mother Eswari, 60, and passing through the area.
Suddenly, a car approaching from behind lost control and collided with Kaushik's vehicle in a high-speed sideswipe impact.
The force of the collision caused Kaushik's car to swerve off course, striking the bystanders near the motorcycles before crashing into the meat shop, leaving the standing individuals with serious injuries.
In the accident, R Subash, 42, from Chinnapallipalayam, succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the hospital. K Kodiyarasu, 55, from Sriramasamudram, died later at Karur govt hospital. Two other bystanders, Praveen, 18, and Vadivel, 50, along with Kaushik and Eswari, sustained severe injuries.
Police arrested K Tharanitharan, 22, from Karur district in connection with the accident.
Kattuputhur police registered a case against the accused under sections 281 (rash driving), 106(1) (causing death by negligence), and 125 (endangering life) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
