Trichy: The Trichy corporation has suspended a portion of the road laying work in E Pudur locality that falls under ward 62, citing a land dispute. However, the residents claimed that there was no such dispute and charged the civic body officials and ward councillor for favouring some individuals who claim ownership over the public road.
Residents of Guru garden in Settiyapatti said that their locality received new roads from Trichy corporation recently.
However, around 30m long access road that connects Guru garden with Settiyapatti main road was not laid. When questioned, the civic body informed the residents that a group of individuals from Settiyapatti have opposed laying the access road which was claimed to be a part of temple land.
“The layout regularised by Trichy corporation in 2011 has clearly identified our access road as a public pathway, we purchased the land based on the approval. There are no legal hurdles in completing the road work. The civic body officials and our ward councillor are not interested to complete the road,” D Manohar, a resident of Guru garden said. Apart from the residential area, the approach road also connects a PDS outlet for the locality.
“There is a dispute in laying the access road, a section of locals have opposed laying the road. We are checking the ownership status of the land,” an official source said. Ward councillor K Suba said that she will visit the locality and hold talks with the residents.
