TRICHY: With the DMK also announcing election candidates for the upcoming 16th Lok Sabha election, the AIADMK on Tuesday officially commenced its campaign with P Kumar, the sitting member of parliament from the Trichy constituency, holding a door-to-door campaign at Srirangam.
MP P Kumar started the campaign from the MLA office located at the entrance of the Amma Mandapam road.
Firecrackers were burst by party cadres and folk music that was played all round through out the campaign.
With the election scheduled in the state on April 24, the contesting parties have launched canvassing of voters. All aim to reach out to the maximum voters within the stipulated time.
During the door-to-door campaign of the Trichy MP, several people came forward to offer their blessings. Some women gave aarathis (fire ritual) to Kumar.
Several AIADMK cadres thronged the streets to lend their support to the candidate.
While the DMK candidates from Trichy, Anbhazhagan M, and Perambalur candidate Seemanur Prabhu were busy garlanding the statues of its leaders in the city on Tuesday, Kumar was visiting residents of Srirangam, personally.
Kumar was accompanied by R Manoharan, MLA and government chief whip, and a few other leaders. He was also flanked by several AIADMK councillors of the Trichy corporation.
The party leaders stressed on the developmental schemes initiated by the state government.
The cadres, meanwhile, handed out pamphlets to the residents.
