Karur: A 39-year-old bed-ridden forest department employee and his wife committed suicide, after killing their 12-year-old son by poisoning him with celphos tablets in Karur district on Thursday.
According to police, the victims were identified as K Pugazhendhi, 39, his wife P Malarkodi, 33, and his son P Suhanraj, 12, of North Gandhi Gramam in Karur.
Pugazhendhi was a watcher in the forest department and Suhanraj was studying in Class VII at a private school in Karur.
Pugazhendhi met with an accident earlier in February this year and according to sources, suffered paralysis attack on both limbs. The accident forced him to remain at his house, restraining his movements. Though he had been undergoing treatment, he began to worry about his future and family and was upset due to his medical condition. On Wednesday night, after poisoning his son Suhanraj with celphos, which is used for coconut trees, Pugazhedhi and his wife too consumed the tablets.
Subsequently, all the three had collapsed. Upon knowing the incident, their relatives had rushed them to a private hospital. They were then referred to the government hospital in the city, where they succumbed during the early hours on Thursday. On information, Pasupathipalayam police registered a case and are conducting an inquiry.
