Trichy: The urban local body, jointly with HDFC bank and Trichy-based eQuadriga software solution provider, has distributed 100 Point of Sale (PoS) machines to sanitary officials across the four zones of the Trichy Corporation on Friday.
As the portable machines have been provided, the civic body officials can now levy penalty on the spot from erring residents and shopkeepers, who are caught polluting the city.
As the clandestine dumping of domestic and commercial waste is increasing, the corporation, to levy penalty from the erring citizens, had decided to provide PoS machines to the officials.
Subsequently in association with a software service provider here to systemize the penalization process, the corporation commissioner N Ravichandran, on Friday, handed over 100 PoS machines to sanitary officials, sanitary inspectors and sanitary supervisors across the 65 wards here. Furnished with a facility to swipe debit cards and pay the penalty, the machine will ensure that the penalty levied is collected on the spot.
“Previously, when we levied heavy penalty, the person would offer reasons to delay the payment in cash or cheque. With the portable PoS machine in hands, we can collect the penalty and hand over the receipt on the spot,” an official source said.
Sanitary department officials will be using the PoS for collecting penalties for dumping waste on vacant lands, not segregating the waste at source and shops selling banned plastic products.
