Brother beats labourer, 42, to death

Thanjavur: A 42-year-old agricultural labourer was beaten to death by his younger brother following a land dispute near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district. Police have launched a search to nab the accused as well as his wife who are on the run.
Police said the deceased was identified as T Pugazhenthi, a native of Sannanalloor village, and the accused as T Muvendhan, 28, who is also an agricultural labourers. A dispute between the siblings over their ancestral land has been remaining unsettled for a long time. On Sunday night, the brothers, who were in an inebriated condition, picked up an altercation on the matter. After exchanging heated arguments they got into a scuffle which turned violent. At one point, Muvendhan picked up a wooden log and started attacking Pugazhendhi. Soon, Muvendhan's wife M Amirthavalli too allegedly joined her husband and attacked Pugazhendhi, police said.
He sustained grievous injuries on his head following which his relatives rushed him to Kumbakonam government hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries without responding to the treatment, police said. TNN
