THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI in Kerala on Monday announced 24 candidates for the assembly elections, half of whom are debutants, including two women. Former minister K E Ismail (Pattambi), the party leader in the Assembly K P Rajendran (Kodungallur), state executive member Kanam Rajendran (Vazhur) and AITUC leader C Divakaran (Karunagapally) are among the prominent names in the list released by CPI state secretary Veliyam Bhargavan here.
The party had exempted four candidates from the norm of not to field those who had contested two earlier elections, Bhargavan said. Fathima Abdul Khader and E S Bijimol, contesting from Nattika and Peerumedu respectively, are the women candidates. Other candidates and their constituencies: Pallipram Balan (Hosdurg), Benoy Viswam (Nadapuram), K Moideen Koya (Thirurangadi), Jose Baby (Mannarghat), V S Sunil Kumar (Cherpu), Rajaji Mathew Thomas (Ollur), A K Chandran (Mala), K M Dinakaran (Paravur), Babu Paul (Moovattupuzha), K Ajith (Vaikom), P Thilothaman (Cherthala), T J Anjelos (Alappuzha), K R Chandramohan (Pathanapuram), K Raju (Punalur), Mullakkara Ratnakaran (Chadayamangalam), N Anirudhan (Chathannur), N Rajan (Kilimanur) and Mangode Radhakrishnan (Nedumangad).
