THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The validity of new PSC rank lists that will expire on December 31 will be extended for six months. The lists which will expire on March 31, 2017, will get a three month extension. The state cabinet that met here on Wednesday decided to extend the validity of PSC lists—which haven’t yet got the benefit of extension— from three to six months.
However, lists which had got extensions earlier will expire on December 31.
Youth Congress and Yuva Morcha have been protesting in front of the secretariat seeking extension of all PSC rank lists. The LDF state committee had also recommended the cabinet to look into the possibility of extending PSC rank lists.
Sources said the decision to limit extension to only those lists which haven’t got that privilege earlier has been taken to help PSC to launch a fresh recruitment drive for several posts.
The decision of the cabinet prompted Yuva Morcha to withdraw the protest while Youth Congress decided to continue their agitation till Friday when the meeting of PSC will discuss the recommendation of the cabinet.
The PSC’s discussion will be a mere formality as the Commission also favours the extension of the existing rank lists.
The cabinet also approved names of four new PSC members to fill the existing vacancies in the commission. PWD executive engineer Sureshan C; Prof M R Baiju of College of Engineering, Trivandrum; Jinu Zacharia Oommen, senior fellow, Overseas Indian affairs ministry, New Delhi and Advocate Raghu K Marath of Thrissur are the new PSC members. Jinu is the nominee of CPI while Raghu is the Thrissur district president of NCP. The other two are nominees of CPM.
