The Kapurbavdi police recently arrested two youths for the murder of a young housewife from the area. One of the accused is the husband of the deceased. The duo has been sent to police custody for seven days by the Thane district court to facilitate further investigations into the case.
According to the police the body of one Savita alias Babita, a newly married woman, was found lying in her home on September 7.
The throat of the woman was slit open which apparently resulted in her death. The husband of the woman was missing from the home after the incident.
Kapurbavdi police registered an offence of murder against unknown persons and began investigations into the case. Preliminary enquiries revealed that the deceased was married to one Prafulla Mohanty in May this year. Savita originally hailed from a remote village of Orissa and had come to stay with her husband and in-laws after her marriage.
Mohanty and his family members suspected the fidelity of the woman and used to harass her on flimsy grounds. The woman used to remain under depression due to harassment from her husband and in laws.
A month before her murder the woman went back to her parents in her native village on the grounds that she was suffering from illness and needed some rest. The in-laws of Savita, at first, prevented her from going back to her parents but decided to bring her back within days after she reached her parents. The woman came back to stay with her in laws.
Mohanty decided to eliminate his wife in cold blood after his suspicion over her fidelity strengthened. He took the help of his friend Ramesh Pradhan, a nearby resident. The duo committed the crime on the day and escaped. The police caught both the accused and produced them before the Thane court. The court remanded the duo to police custody to facilitate further investigations.
The police strongly feel that there could be some other motive behind the crime including that of property. The cops claim that the actual reason behind the offence could be established only after the ongoing investigations.
