THANE: A woman sarpanch in Maharashtra's Thane district faces legal action for allegedly soliciting a Rs 10,000 bribe from a property owner, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The property owner sought to register a newly purchased house with the Vangni gram panchayat for property tax purposes, according to the Anti-Corruption Bureau's statement.
The sarpanch first requested Rs 20,000 for the registration but subsequently lowered the demand to Rs 10,000, as per the release.
Following this, the property owner contacted the ACB, which proceeded to file a police complaint.
The Kulgaon police subsequently registered an FIR on Wednesday against the sarpanch, charging her under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the ACB confirmed.
