Surat: The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) of Surat city police have arrested one more person in connection with the Ankleshwar MD drugs case. The accused, Palak Patel, faces murder charges in a 10-year-old case.
Palak, a diamond company employee, was instrumental in sending the MD to Mumbai through a Surat drug dealer. After selling 2kg of MD, when he was about to receive another 2kg from Ankleshwar, Surat police busted the racket.
DCP (Crime Branch) Bhavesh Rojiya told TOI: "We seized MD drugs worth Rs 2 crore near Velanja village of Surat on Sunday with three individuals who were coming to Surat city to supply 2kg of MD to Palak."
He said Palak successfully sold 2kg of MD to Surat's local drug dealer, who supplied it to Mumbai. Palak bought the first consignment of 1kg from Vishal Patel and Montu Patel in July for Rs 6 lakh. He added his profit and sold it to the Surat dealer.
As the MD quality was liked by the dealer, he again gave 1kg to the dealer. After two successful deliveries, Palak ordered another 2kg, which was to be supplied on Sunday. "But we busted the racket and arrested the suppliers," Rojiya said.
After Palak was caught in Katargam area, the DCB interrogated him and found that he was an accused in a 10-year-old murder case. Palak had a violent clash with another group while he was playing cricket. He killed one person with the help of his friend Satish alias Satiya in 2014.
Palak is the cousin of Montu Patel, who is an MPharm and the prime accused in the MD case. Montu and Vishal planned to make the MD at Avsar Enterprise unit in Ankleshwar GIDC. On Sunday, the DCB team raided the Ankleshwar unit with Bharuch SOG police. Police seized 141g of MD and 427kg of suspected MD. If the suspected haul is confirmed as MD in the FSL report, it will be worth Rs 427 crore.
