Dug up Rander-Adajan roads

SURAT: Athwalines main road, Dumas Road and Ghod Dod Road are regular pathways for Sachin Tendulkar's Ferrari and a number of SUVs. His other car BMW X5 has been moving around more frequently on Adajan-Pal Road and also on Rander main road and Jahangirpura main road.
On the other hand, the residents of this area, which is witnessing many residential development projects, face the problems of dug up and half completed roads, the cause of traffic jam during peak hours.
"When the 150-feet Road is half completed and work on pavements and service roads not finished, what is the use of having a RCC Road? It is proving to be dangerous and daily there are at least four accidents," said Manoj Shah of Adajan.
A SMC official said, "We have a lot of semi-completed projects on major roads. Rander main road, which extends up to Saroli bridge via Jahangirpura and Ram Nagar is a 6.9 km long 150-feet road. Here the length of the RCC road that has been completed is only 2300 metres. The work to build service road and footpaths is on in the stretch from Adajan Patia to Ramnagar. This is creating problems for the commuters."
On Adajan-Pal main road from Adajan Patia to Rekha Park and there to Pal, service roads and footpaths have been constructed only upto Rekha Park. The work to build the 4.5 km long 150 and 200 feet RCC road in the area is yet to be started.
Traffic volume according to the CRRI report of 2004 on this area was about 6000 vehicles at Jahangirpura and Navyug College. Today it is more than 12 000 vehicles during the peak hours in this area. At Gujarat Gas Circle, the traffic volume which was 11,000 in 2004 now was over 20 ,000 vehicles.
An elected representative from Rander asked, "How can you drive a four wheeler on these roads.? You might boast of having CC roads but not doing much to cope up with a huge population explosion in the area."
Rajesh Solanki , a resident of Pal in the newly developed LP Savani road, said, "The new city areas because of proper town planning have some worth. There are ample sized roads and one can enjoy driving on them. The problem is of the roads in old areas of the city."
It is a nightmare to be at Gujarat Gas circle because of ongoing work to build a flyover. SUV or no SUV the people of this area will continue to face problems till the construction work is completed.
