Kullu: A woman was killed and 40 others, who were part of two college groups from Delhi, suffered injuries after the private bus they were travelling in overturned on Chandigarh-Manali national highway near Bilaspur on Friday morning.
There were 40 passengers on the Manali-bound bus.
Police officials said the deceased has been identified as Kaushangi Arya, a resident of Jaipur in Rajasthan.
She suffered head injuries and died on the spot, said a police officer.
Passersby and local residents pulled out the injured from the bus and took them to the government hospital in Bilaspur.
One passenger was referred to PGI, Chandigarh. A district administration official said four of the injured passengers had suffered bone fractures and were being taken care of in the local hospital.
Police officials said the accident happened after the driver of the bus, which has a
Haryana registration number, lost balance apparently due to the high speed of the vehicle.
A case of negligence against the bus driver has been registered by the Bilaspur police.
On Wednesday, over 10 passengers suffered minor injuries after a Himachal Road Transport Corporation bus they were travelling in overturned near Nagwain village of Mandi district. Last year on November 25, 18 tourists were injured after a private bus they were travelling in overturned near Bilaspur town. The private bus was on its way from Manali to Amritsar via Chandigarh.
