Namakkal: A total of Rs 8.60 lakh in cash was stolen from two textile shops in Tiruchengode in Namakkal district in the early hours of Wednesday.
The thefts happened in Saraswathi Cloth Store and in Central Silks Showroom. Both are located opposite to each other on the North Rath Road. Rs 5.80 lakh was stolen from Saraswathi Cloth Store while Rs 2.80 lakh was taken way from Central Silks Showroom by breaking open the lockers.
On Wednesday morning, when employees of Saraswathi Cloth Store opened the shop, they found that someone had broken the ventilator area. They informed the Tiruchengode town police. A team led by deputy superintendent of police V Krishnan conducted an intensive investigation. Later, police found that someone had broken into Central Silks Showroom.
Fingerprint experts collected evidence. Police were checking CCTV footage from the shops and nearby areas.
