Salem: The Salem city police arrested a prisoner who escaped from the Salem Govt Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital (SGMKMCH) on May 9 while undergoing treatment there.M Mohamed Hussain of Thanjavur district was accused in 32 cases, including robbery, dacoity and child sexual assault. He was convicted in 12 cases.Hussain, who had been lodged in the Trichy Central Prison, was transferred to the Salem Central Prison in April on administrative grounds.A few days later, he complained of stomach pain and was admitted to SGMKMCH on April 28. He escaped from the hospital on May 9.Salem city commissioner of police A K Giri formed a special team to nab him. “The special team did intensive searches, analysed available data and information and interrogated various suspects across the state,” the commissioner told TOI. The man, who had been evading capture for 14 days, was finally arrested from Virudhunagar on Saturday and lodged in the Salem Central Prison.
