Ranchi: The Deputy Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha,
Harivansh Narayan Singh, on Saturday said rapidly changing technologies may bring in rapid growth but it would also pose several challenges for humans.
Speaking as the chief guest at the 12th convocation of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ranchi, Singh said for the past 250 years, ideas shaped the world but recently, technologies are shaping humans.
Citing various reports and authors, he said artificial intelligence (AI) could bring in unimaginable progress but there are several questions regarding its destructive powers. Singh said discussions are on to find out if AI could be controlled by humans at all.
“The advancement in technologies is also bringing in volatility, uncertainty, complexities and ambiguities in the world,” he said.
Singh also said the future would be driven by the youths and students should focus on being good and doing good for society. He later awarded the Board of Governors and Chairman’s medals and certificates, Director’s medals and certificates, Programme’s chairperson’s medals and certificates to toppers of the institute at the convocation.
As many as 396 students received certificates for MBA, 69 for MBA human resources, 34 for MBA BA, 37 for executive MBA and three each for PhD and executive PhD at the event. IIM-R director
