The family ventures into hotel industry and also run a garment wholesale shop on the premises of the house.The colony lies close to the main road of the state capital where police claim to keep vigil all night. One person was injured in the loot as the dacoits attacked him with the butt of a gun when he tried to raise an alarm. A case has been registered with Chutia police station in this connection.
The dacoits jumped over the boundary wall that fenced the house to enter the campus and broke open a door. They immediately snatched the mobile phones of the family members and held everybody hostage inside. While some of them carried out raids inside the house, a group of them patrolled outside the house.
The dacoits took around one-and-a-half hours to collect the valuables from the lockers and closets after securing the keys forcefully. The family members claimed that the dacoits collected huge cash, gold and diamond jewelry and other costly items and decamped with it all.
They informed Chutia police station about the incident around 2am. However, police arrived late to take stock of the situation. Indrajit Singh, a family member, claimed that jewellery weighing 500 grams was taken away by the dacoits. "They have decamped with around Rs 5 lakh cash," he added. Chutia inspector Arvind Kumar Sinha said that police have recorded their statements. "We have received vital inputs about the criminals. We hope to crack the case soon," said Sinha.
