JAMSHEDPUR: The failed bid on gangster Akhilesh's life outside Jamshedpur court on Saturday has raised pertinent questions on the security ring in the Steel City.
At a closed door meeting chaired by district Judge Anant Vijay Singh, the top police officers and office bearers of Jamshedpur Bar Association discussed the nitty-gritty of the security arrangements on Jamshedpur court premises.
"In the backdrop of the heightened security on the court premises since Monday, we wanted to know from the SSP whether it was a temporary arrangement or a long term system in place," said Jamshedpur Bar Association secretary, Anil Tiwary.
Deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal, SSP Amol V Homkar, SP (city) Karthik S briefed the district judge and other office bearers on the enhanced security system at the entry gates of the court.
"If the deliberations of the meeting are any indication than the three entry gates of the court shall have electronic security system, soon," an office bearer of Jamshedpur court said.
"Several points pertaining to the security ring around the court complex were raised at the meeting and the electronic security system involving e-surveillance mechanism was also discussed. However it is a matter of time before the e-gadgets are installed in the court," said a police officer, who was also present at the meeting.
However, the Bar Association is opposed to the idea of daily scrutiny of judicial officers on the court premises.
"We carry authorized entry pass to get inside the court premises and therefore see no reason why advocates should be subjected to the routine check. We have lodged our displeasure with the SSP and hopefully he will look into it," said a member of the Bar Association.
SSP Amol Homkar maintained that the revamped security is the need of the hour to instill confidence in the people. However periodic review of the security arrangements will be done and if required, correction will be made, subsequently.
