CLRD Marks to decide hostel accommodation at NIT- B
JAMSHEDPUR: Looks like accommodation woes at the engineering cradle of the state, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Adityapur, are far from over. First, it was MBA freshers complaining they were finding it difficult to find accommodation in the institute. And now, fourth year students are alleging that the administration is preventing them from sharing rooms with "bright batchmates".

A section of students have alleged that in the fourth year, rooms have been allotted on the basis of students' academic performance. "Those who have fared well in the CGP (common grade point) have been given accommodation at one place while those who have not done so well have been asked to stay in a different hostel," said a 4th year student. According to sources, the barometer for selecting students for accommodation is the percentage of CGP attained.
Those who have earned 8+ CGP in electronics, 7.6 CGP in civil, 7.4 CGP in metrological and 7.6 CGP in electrical, among other streams, have been given accommodation at one place and while those who have earned marks below this are being accommodated elsewhere. The college administration, however, is not perturbed. "I don't see any merit in the complaints. We follow a certain pattern annually to accommodate the students and make way for newcomers," said Rajnish Srivastava, director, NIT. But he maintained that in the wake of five-fold rise in students' number, the hostel problem has become acute.
