Dhanbad: The state
BJP unit on Thursday organised a day-long dharna here to protest ‘the deteriorating law and situation in Dhanbad’ where party leader and former CM Babulal Marandi claimed that the manner in which goons and anti-social elements are ruling the roost, people will have to hit the streets and force the state government to work for the welfare of the public.
Addressing the gathering, Marandi said, “Maintaining law and order is the prime responsibility of any state government but the Hemant Soren-led administration has utterly failed in maintaining law and order.”
He added that the manner in which doctors, traders and other businessmen were being openly threatened for extortion and criminals are being patronized by the government and ruling party leaders, no investment will come to the state, thereby, affecting the developmental prospects of Jharkhand.
The dharna comes two days after a noted surgeon, Dr Samir Kumar, left the district following extortion calls and death threats from a jailed gangster.
“Given how criminals are making threat calls from inside jails, the state government should transfer them to jails in Bihar, UP or Northeastern states keeping in mind the larger public interest,” Marandi said.
Giving details of the slush money being distributed among political party leaders, different ranks of police officials and journalists against every truck of illegal coal mines and transported to other states on forged papers, Marandi said that the government and its officials are busy counting the cut money instead of focussing on providing basic amenities to the people and on ensuring safety for the people from criminal elements.
Dhanbad MLA Raj Sinha and Nirsa MLA Aparna Sengupta, who also took part in the dharna, alleged that the entire law and order system has collapsed.
