Rajkot: Two youths from Rajasthan were arrested on Friday evening for allegedly smuggling a large consignment of liquor in the Jetpur taluka area.
A complaint was lodged at Jetpur Taluka police station by assistant sub-inspector Vipul Maru against Dinesh Bishnoi (25) of Barmer district and Viraram Choudhary (20) of Jalore district under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Gujarat Prohibition Act.

According to police, on Jan 24, a patrolling team received a tip-off about a suspicious white four-wheeler speeding towards Jetpur from the Devki Galol side. Around 6.15pm, when officers signalled the vehicle to stop, the driver allegedly tried to run them over. The policemen narrowly escaped, but the vehicle hit a parked motorcycle and plunged into a roadside ditch.
Both the accused were apprehended on the spot and a search of the car led to the recovery of 2,224 bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor, valued at about Rs 7.71 lakh. The total value of the seized liquor and vehicle is estimated at Rs 16.21 lakh.
