Rajkot: What was initially believed to be a death road accident has now been revealed to be a premeditated murder and betrayal, shockingly committed by the deceased's maternal cousin, who had spent his childhood in his house after losing his mother.
The victim, 29-year-old Yuvrajsinh Zala, who was preparing for police sub-inspector (PSI) recruitment, died on Jan 15 near Chuli village of Dhrangadhra taluka, after his bike was struck by an unknown vehicle.
His father Sukhadevsinh Zala, 55, filed a complaint at the Dhrangadhra police station against the unidentified driver and did not suspect any foul play.
Rushing to the spot, Sukhadevsinh found his son unconscious. Fragments of a vehicle bearing the Mahindra company symbol and other vehicle parts were scattered at the scene. Yuvrajsinh was taken to Dhrangadhra govt hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
On Thursday, the police arrested Yuvrajsinh's 25-year-old cousin Divyarajsinh, after CCTV footage from the accident spot and subsequent investigation revealed that the car involved was an SUV owned by him.
After losing his mother at a young age, Divyarajsinh was raised in Yuvrajsinh's household.
During questioning, Divyarajsinh reportedly admitted that Yuvrajsinh used to reprimand him over minor issues, and that around six months ago, his elder brother had committed suicide. "Divyaraj strongly suspected that Yuvrajsinh was responsible for his brother's suicide. He has cited multiple reasons for the murder," said Narendra Chudasama, in-charge inspector, Dhrangadhra Taluka police station.
Divyarajsinh hails from Nava Dhuva village of Wankaner taluka, and has been working in the driving profession in Mandvi, Kutch, for the past four to five months.
