Rajahmundry: A 34-year-old man went on a rampage at Korukonda near here on Thursday and bludgeoned to death three persons including his sister-in-law with an iron rod. He was later overpowered by locals and handed over to the cops.
Police said Yedida Anand, the accused, a resident of Korukonda area, terrorised the public on the roads for almost 45 minutes.
It all begun with Anand having a heated argument with his sister-in-law Lalitha Kumari (40) in the morning, following which he picked up an iron rod and hammered her. Witnessing the assault, 40year-old Geddam Nagabhusham, a mutton shop owner and neighbour, tried to rescue Lalitha but Anand turned on him after killing his sister-in-law and beat him to death.
Even as the people on the road were terrorised into a state of stupor, the psychopath then turned on Kandavali Kumari, a 43-year-old neighbour and bludgeoned her to death with the iron rod while she was washing utensils. By then, local youths managed to overpower Anand and inform the cops. Both Lalita Kumar and Nagabhushanam died on the spot while Kumari succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. According to the cops, Anand was convicted along with his brother Ravi Kumar for knifing a businessman to death at Jampeta in Rajahmundry nine years ago.
