Raipur: A year-old tiger cub died of renal failure in Kanan Pendari Zoological Park in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday noon. The cub was suffering from kidney related ailment since early this month and died due to hydronephrosis.
The female cub named ‘Rashmi’ showed symptoms and was under treatment, officials said. It was among the four cubs born to tigress
Rambha on April 17 last year.
An autopsy was conducted in presence of vets and forest officials before the last rites were performed.
Forest minister Mohd Akbar had christened the names of four cubs on July 30, 2022 during his visit to the zoological park. In February, a rescued leopard had died in the zoo. Death of animals in Kanan Pendari is common and frequent due to snake bite, illness or summers. Sources said that there is only one vet for 600 animals in the park while there's an acute shortage of other staff members as well.TNN
