Chhattisgarh govt serving only Congress brass: BJP chief

RAIPUR: Sounding the bugle for the next year’s assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president J P Nadda on Friday mounted an attack on the Congress government saying that the state is in debt, development has come to a standstill and law and order deteriorated as its focus is only on serving Congress partys top brass.
Congress government here is just an ATM for the party.Its focus is not on development or welfare of the people but on pleasing one family and obliging the brother and the sister, he said while addressing a meeting of BJP’s 23,000 booth level workers at the science college ground in the state capital. Earlier, BJP chief J P Nadda, accompanied by state party president Arun Sao, took out a road show from airport to the science college ground where the party vice-president and former chief minister Raman Singh described the next year’s election as a crucial battle.
Exhorting his party workers to overthrow the Congress government in the next elections, the BJP chief said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed the political culture, forcing every party to go to the people with a report card on what they have done while in power. BJP is fighting dynasty politics from Kashmir to Tamil Nadu. Congress is a party which has no ideology, he said.
Listing the achievements of previous BJP government during its 15-year-old regime, he said it was Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who took the initiative to carve out the new state of Chhattisgarh in year 2000 and set in motion a process of development of this region. Besides, AIIMS Raipur, many prestigious institutes like IIM and IIT Bhilai were set up during the BJP regime while the Modi government has sanctioned and implemented nine smart cities across the state, he recalled.
Alleging that mafia has spread its tentacles in every field during the last three and a half years, Nadda said sand mafia, coal mafia, liquor mafia were active in the state. However, Chhattisgarh took pioneering effort in one area — home delivery of liquor, he took a jibe at the Congress government. He said the Congress government, instead of taking up development initiatives, has halted many projects, which were started during the previous BJP government.
Describing the upcoming assembly elections in Chhattisgarh as a crucial battle ahead, BJP vice-president and former chief minister Raman Singh reiterated that the Bhupesh Baghel government has been making false promises to the people without taking any concrete steps to fulfil them.
Accusing the Congress government of having failed to fulfil the promises made to the educated unemployed, farmers and others in its manifesto for the 2018 assembly elections, state BJP president Arun Sao said more than 15 lakh people in the rural areas have been deprived of the facility of getting houses under the Pradhan Mantri Grameen Aawas Yoajana (PMAY) due to the indifference of the Congress government.
Assembly elections to the 90 member Chhattisgarh legislative assembly is scheduled to be held in November-December next year.
