RAIPUR: In an attempt to ensure good health of children and provide them with healthy and nutritious diets, Chhattisgarh has commenced Child Protection Month from Tuesday.
During this month, children in the age group of nine months to five years will be given vitamin-A supplements and essential syrup.
During the month, activities of national health programmes related to promotion of child health and delivery of services will also be strengthened.
A target has been set to provide vitamin-A supplements to 26.44 lakh children across the state.
Deputy director of child and child health programme Dr V R Bhagat informed that there is a provision to provide nutritious and hot food through different programmes by the department of women and child development to ensure nutrition among children of the state.
Child protection month is being organised to help eradicate malnutrition and anaemia from pregnant women. In addition, children from nine months to five years are also given a dose of vitamin-A at an interval of six months.
The syrup will be given at fixed intervals to children of the prescribed age as well. The weight of the children will also be monitored, and based on their age and BMI, parents will be given information about proper diet that will sustain a healthy nutritional content in their children's diet.
Severely malnourished children will also be identified and admitted for treatment in nutritional rehabilitation centres, officers said.
