PUNE: A tempo driver, Prakash Dhondale (31) of Guruwar Peth, was found dead in a cement pipe on the Mutha river bank behind Vaikunth crematorium on Friday night.
Assistant police inspector M K Kulkarni of the Deccan Gymkhana police station on Saturday said that investigations have prima facie revealed that Dhondale had committed suicide by consuming a poisonous chemical.
Kulkarni said that a liquor bottle was found near the body.
According to Kulkarni, Dhondale had recovered from a prolonged illness but could not get work. He committed suicide because he was depressed, he added.
A post-mortem was performed at Sassoon general hospital, but authorities did not reveal the cause of death.
