PUNE: Five former employees of a private company, who were sacked by the owner recently, allegedly thrashed other staff members and robbed 20 kg of silver plates in Charholi during the wee hours of Wednesday.
The Alandi police have booked the suspects under section 395 (dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code. The suspects have been identified as Naval Rajput, Virendra Rajput, Vidwans Rajput, Mahesh Rajput and
Devendra Rajput, all from Uttar Pradesh.
"A team of Alandi police has rushed to Uttar Pradesh to nab the suspects," said Kumar Kadam, assistant inspector of Alandi police station.
Kadam said the suspects were working in a coating company in Charholi. Around five months ago, the owner of the company had sacked all them when he found that they were involved in petty thefts in the company. "The company requires silver and copper for coating work. On Tuesday, the owner had purchased silver in large quantity for some work. He had kept the silver plates in a box in the company," Kadam said.
During the wee hours of Wednesday, the suspects entered the premises of the company. At that time, three company workers were on duty. "The suspects thrashed the workers and tied them with ropes. They then broke the box and took away 20 silver plates weighing one kg each. The cost of the plates was Rs 20 lakh," Kadam said.
He said one of the workers told the owner, who approached the police and lodged a complaint. "The trio on duty hails from the suspects' village in Uttar Pradesh. We have got their residential address," Kadam added.
