PUNE: The Koregaon Park police have booked some officials of a club that organises holidays and tours for taking Rs 1 lakh from an engineer and allegedly failing to keep the promises made to him.
Sandhya Agarwal has stated in her complaint that the club officials had made 'false' promises to her husband that he would be gifted with a car, besides free membership of a gym and free stay in various hotels in the country.
Police, who booked the suspects under section (420) cheating of the Indian Penal Code, said further action can be taken against them only after verifying the documents signed by the engineer.
Assistant inspector P B Patil of the Koregaon Park police station told TOI that the incident happened between September 2013 and July this year. "The complainant's husband, Arpit Agarwal, had got a call from an official of the club who asked him to meet them in a city-based hotel for some presentation. During the presentation, the couple were told to pay Rs 1 lakh in lieu of the facilities as well as a car as a gift," he said.
Patil said the suspects also told them that it was the last day of the offer. "When Agarwal agreed to become a member of the club, the suspects asked him to sign an agreement and took the cash," he said.
Patil said despite regularly pursuing the matter, Agarwal did not get the promised gift from the club. "He also came to know that he would have to pay for his expenses in the hotels and will not have the facility of free stay," he said, adding that an investigation is on.
