'Connecting' observing world suicide prevention day on September 3

The programme will include a screening of 40-minute documentary film, A drop of sunshine based on the life of Reshma, a young woman from Pune, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia while studying in college.

PUNE: Non-governmental organisation (NGO), Connecting is observing World Suicide Prevention Day on September 3. The programme will include a screening of 40-minute documentary film, A drop of sunshine based on the life of Reshma, a young woman from Pune, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia while studying in college.

The film, which is in English, made by Aparna Sanyal, chronicles Reshmas journey over ten years through the symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, self-discovery and recovery process.
The film was telecast on Doordarshan in May and also at a film festival in Kerala. Reshma will also be present post-screening for interaction with the audience. The programme will be open to all and seating will be on first-come-first-serve basis. Connecting runs a helpline for those in emotional distress or feeling suicidal. The helpline numbers are -- 9922001122 and 18002094353 which is operational between 2 to 8 pm everyday. Other programmes for the World Suicide Prevention day include peer educator programme in schools, awareness programmes and support for survivors of suicide loss.
The screening will be held at the Mazda Hall inside Dastur school premises. Further information is available on website www.connectingindia.org. The NGO is dedicated to suicide prevention in youth. Its team of volunteers are dedicated to serve the community through its various programmes, seminars and especially through its suicide prevention helpline.
