PUNE: The Central Railways will be running 1,516 trains during the summer season to meet the extra rush of passengers during the holidays. From Pune, holiday special trains will run to Lucknow, Agra, Gorakhpur, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Secunderabad.
Every year, the railways operate special trains during the summer season from April to June, as well as during the Diwali season.
The railways will continue the Pune-Secunderabad Janshatabdi express, which has been running since October last year. The train will operate till June 30 on four days a week - Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The Pune-Jaipur train will run once every week from April 2 to June 25. The train will leave Pune on Sundays, while from Jaipur the train will leave every Saturday.
The train to Agra will leave from Pune every Tuesday from April 5 to June 28. The train will leave from Agra every Wednesday. The Pune-Ahmedabad train will leave every Thursday from April 8 to July 1. From Ahmedabad, the train will leave every Friday.
There are two trains for Gorakhpur, one leaving Pune on Friday and the second on Saturday. From Gorakhpur, the trains will leave on Thursday and Sunday. These trains will operate from April 1 to June 26.
Other routes on which the trains that will run include Solapur-Bijapur (daily), Kolhapur-Nagpur (bi-weekly), Latur-Solapur (daily), Nagpur-Amravati (bi-weekly), Nagpur-Ahmedabad (weekly), and Nagpur-Hatia (weekly). Trains will also be running from Shirdi to Chennai, Vishakapatnam, Bhubaneshwar, Delhi, and Yeswantpur (Bangalore).
The railways will be operating trains from Mumbai to Sawantwadi, Varanasi, Agra, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Patna, Jabalpur, and Howrah. Bookings will open in the first week of March. Incidentally, some of the trains to be operated as holiday specials have already been announced in the railway budget.
