Puducherry: Karaikal woman with co-morbidities dies of Covid-19

The Union territory reported a Covid-19 death after five months when a 35-year-old woman from Karaikal with brain tumour and pituitary adenoma died of the viral infection at Jawaharlal Institute of Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) on Monday.

PUDUCHERRY: The Union territory reported a Covid-19 death after five months when a 35-year-old woman from Karaikal with brain tumour and pituitary adenoma died of the viral infection at Jawaharlal Institute of Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) on Monday.
The last Covid-19 death in the territory was reported in November last. The death toll due to Covid-19 in the Union territory is 1,976.

The territory reported three positive cases - two in Karaikal and one in Yanam - on Monday. Health authorities tested only 67 samples on Monday.
Public health experts said the Puducherry government should step up the number of tests after a sudden surge in Covid-19 cases nationally and in neighbouring Tamil Nadu in the past few days.
Puducherry's neighbouring districts of Tamil Nadu reported a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases. Cuddalore district reported three new cases on Sunday taking the total number of active cases to 33, though Villupuram district did not report any fresh case.
Two patients are under treatment in Villupuram district. Tiruvarur, which is Karaikal's neighbouring district in Tamil Nadu, reported two new Covid-19 cases on Sunday. At present, six Covid-19 patients are under treatment in Tiruvarur district. Neighbouring Nagapattinam district did not report any fresh Covid-19 cases on Sunday though four people are under treatment.
Karaikal collector L Mohamed Mansoor appealed to the general public to wear masks and maintain social distancing at public places such as cinema theatres, commercial complexes and hospitals.
