Robbers flee with ornaments worth Rs 8 lakh in Patna district

PATNA: Unidentified robbers allegedly fled with a vault containing gold and silver ornaments worth more than Rs 8 lakh from a jewellery shop in Manoharpur Kachhuara under the Gopalpur police station area of Patna district on late Friday evening. They struck the store at midnight, when all other businesses in the area were closed.
According to sources, the robbers broke open the shutter and entered the jewellery shop using cutters.The incident was discovered when a police patrolling vehicle passed near the shop and noticed the shutter had been uprooted. The cops called the shopkeeper, Pramod Kumar, and informed him of the incident.
Abhishek Ranjan, SHO of Gopalpur police station, told TOI on Saturday that the vault was recovered from a nearby field, but all the jewellery was missing. “The robbers used a cutter to break open the vault and fled with the jewellery. The shop has been operating out of Dayanand’ Rai's rented home. Almost all of the nearby stores are closed by 8pm, as this is a rural area,” he said.
The SHO added, “The shop was not equipped with closed-circuit television cameras. But cops are on the scene and conducting an investigation. They are also conducting raids in order to apprehend the criminals. However, no arrests have been made thus far.”
In his complaint, Pramod stated that approximately 150gm of gold and 5kg of silver were stolen.
The theft incident has created a state of panic among the area’s traders.
