PATNA: The sleuths of the Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) arrested the BDO of Rajapakar block in Vaishali district Rajiv Ranjan on Tuesday on charges of accepting Rs1 lakh as bribe from a local resident for providing him documents pertaining to PACS election.
A team of bureau officials from the headquarters led by DSP Sarvesh Kumar Singh raided the office premises of the BDO at Rajapakar following a complaint lodged by Purushottam Kumar, a resident of Birnalakhan village under Mahua sub-division in Vaishali district.
The BDO was caught red handed while accepting Rs1 lakh as bribe from the complainant in the office. Rajiv Kumar, stated to be the husband of the mukhiya of Bakarpur panchayat, who was present in the BDO’s office at the time of the operation, was taken into custody by the bureau team for interrogation.
Both the BDO and the mukhiya’s husband were subsequently taken to Muzaffarpur. Earlier, Purushottam had lodged a complaint with the bureau office alleging that the BDO was demanding Rs 2 lakh as bribe for providing him documents related to PACS election.
The allegations against the BDO were found to be true during preliminary investigation. On Tuesday, a trap team led by DSP Singh carried out the raid at the BDO office and nabbed him soon after he accepted the bribe.
The money was seized from the BDO’s possession. Sources said that the mukhiya’s husband, Rajiv, had played an important role in finalizing the deal between the BDO and the complainant of the case. “Both the BDO and the mukhiya’s husband were being questioned by a team of officials in Muzaffarpur,” a senior bureau officer said in Patna.
He said the accused would be produced in the special vigilance court in Muzaffarpur after interrogation.
