‘Sunday on cycle’ rally: Over 1k pedal 10km to stay fit
Patna: Marking the World Bicycle Day 2026, a special edition of “Fit India Sunday on Cycle” was organised in Patna on Sunday, drawing over 1,000 participants from different sections of society. The event, held in collaboration with the Bihar govt and other partner organisations, aimed to promote fitness, environmental sustainability, and a healthy lifestyle through cycling.
Cyclists, including athletes, youth volunteers, fitness enthusiasts, officials, personnel from armed and paramilitary forces, and members of civil society, participated enthusiastically in the rally. The 10-km ride began at Income Tax Golambar, passed through Patna Zoo, and concluded at the starting point.
Patna Sahib MLA Ratnesh Kushwaha attended the event as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the importance of integrating cycling into daily routines and urged citizens to dedicate at least one day every week to the activity. “Cycling not only improves physical fitness but also plays a significant role in protecting the environment,” he said.
Someswar Rao, centre in-charge of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Sports Training Centre (STC) in Patna, said the “Sunday on Cycle” initiative is held regularly across different locations to encourage people to stay active. He added that the programme motivates people of all age groups to adopt healthier habits.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment among participants and organisers to further promote fitness awareness and eco-friendly practices under the Fit India Movement.
Meanwhile, the East Central Railway (ECR) on Sunday also organised a ‘Sunday on Cycle’ rally in Sonepur to promote physical fitness, environmental conservation and healthy living under the nationwide ‘Fit India’ and ‘Khelo India’ programmes.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from railway officials, employees, scouts and guides volunteers, and local residents. Sonepur divisional railway manager (DRM) Amit Saran led the rally, which commenced from the DRM office premises.
Carrying the message “Fitness Ki Dose, Aadhe Ghante Roz,” participants cycled through the railway colony and prominent parts of the town, spreading awareness about the importance of regular physical activity and adopting cycling as a healthy lifestyle habit.
