Nalanda admin forms committee to identify, digitise manuscripts
Biharsharif: Nalanda district magistrate (DM) Kundan Kumar said on Thursday that a district-level committee has been constituted to identify, document and digitise manuscripts available in the district.
Chairing a meeting on the preservation and digitisation of ancient manuscripts under the Gyan Bharatam Mission at the Nalanda collectorate, the DM directed officials of all departments concerned to identify manuscripts held by govt and private institutions, monasteries and temples, educational institutions, public libraries, and private individuals. He asked that their listing and digitisation be completed on a priority basis within a fixed timeline.
Kumar said the digitised manuscripts would be uploaded on the Gyan Bharatam portal to ensure their preservation for present and future generations. He added that the initiative aligns with the vision of “Viksit Bharat @2047” and strengthens the objectives of the Digital India mission.
He further said individuals can directly upload manuscripts through the Gyan Bharatam app or portal, making this invaluable heritage accessible to scholars, students and the public.
Deputy development commissioner, municipal commissioner, additional collector, district panchayati raj officer, district public relations officer, sub-divisional officers, district education officer, district art and culture officer and other officials attended the meeting.
Earlier, the DM said the mission aims to preserve, digitise and archive manuscripts across the country to facilitate easy access for researchers, students and the general public.
