Main accused in professor couple murder case in Bihar's Ara held in Assam

ARA: A team of Bhojpur police arrested Tapan Dey, the main accused in the murder case of retired professor couple, from Jonai village under Dhemaji district of Assam on Thursday. The police also recovered stolen jewellery, Rs 8,100 cash out of the Rs 50,000 stolen by the accused, besides two kitchen knives used in the murder and the mobile phones of the professor couple.

The police team arrested the accused with the help of CCTV footages.

Talking to media persons, Bhojpur SP Pramod Kumar said: “The accused Tapan Dey came in contact with the Prof Mahendra Prasad Singh a few years ago. The professor had allegedly given him assurance that he will find him some job. Tapan with his wife used to serve the professor couple when they need. Dey claimed that he had also given some money to the professor for getting him the job. He had been demanding his money as well as his remuneration for the services provided by him to the professor couple. Another day, the accused had a heated argument with the professor over the issue, and in a fit of rage, he first killed professor's wife Pushpa with two kitchen knives and then killed Prof Mahendra, when he came out of his bathroom. ."
The SP has appealed to the people to get police verification before hiring any domestic help so that if any untoward incident occurs the police nab the culprit soon.
