PATNA: A jeweller, Kundan Kumar Soni, was killed at Eidgah under Town police station of Siwan in the wee hours of Friday. The deceased owned a jewellery shop in the town. An FIR was lodged against unidentified persons by his kin.
Siwan SP Vikash Burman told TOI on phone that Kundan had two bullet injuries on the upper part of his body and the leftover cooked chicken and marks of motorcycle indicated that the deceased was brought to the place by some people he knew and was killed after a feast.
He said Kundan himself had a criminal record and was in jail for over 18 months.
District administration officials, though, denied that any organized gang had emerged in the area. They, however, admitted that four high-profile murder cases ? of Rajiv Roshan, Tabrez, Kundan and a woman who was reportedly murdered by a teenager after a failed sexual assault bid ? had taken place since June. With no arrest made so far in the much-publicized Rajiv Roshan murder case, the residents are said to be panicky and are preferring to stay indoors after sunset.
Rajiv Roshan was killed in June last, a month after his marriage in May, in which Osama Shahab, son of former RJD MP from Siwan, Syed Shahabuddin, is the main accused. Roshan was to appear as an eyewitness in the fast-track court in Patna on June 19 to depose against Shahabuddin in a case related to kidnapping and murder of his (Roshan's) two elder brothers ? Girish and Satish ? in August 2004. According to Chandra Babu, their father, Roshan was killed because he was the sole surviving eyewitness of killing of his siblings.
The Siwan SP described the case as "serious and complicated" and said the police were examining the matter. He said one could not be jailed simply because he was a named accused in an FIR. The SP said the Siwan police had nabbed a person in the Tabrez murder case.
Siwan DM Sanjay Kumar Singh rubbished the rumours about Shahabuddin holding darbar in jail and said that every prisoner is allowed to meet his/her well-wishers on a weekly basis and the former Siwan MP is no exception. IG (prisons and correctional services) Prem Singh Meena said he had already sought a report about it from Siwan jail superintendent, who, in his report, had denied that Shahabuddin was holding darbar in jail.
