PATNA: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday handed over appointment letters to 183 new government employees, including 142 Urdu translators and five assistant translators, sending clear signals of bolstering Urdu education in the state and wooing Muslim voters.
On the occasion, Nitish said total 2,247 posts related to Urdu language were sanctioned and recruitment on 1294 was in the last stage.

He even urged the Waqf board members to speed up the process of handing over of their land in all the districts so that residential schools for minority children could be set up.
He especially asked chief secretary Amir Subhani to speed up the process of recruitment on the vacant posts, adding since 2008, he had been stressing on it, apart from recruitment of Urdu teachers.
Spread knowledge of Urdu: Nitish Kumar
On the occasion, CM Nitish said every individual has right to use Hindi or Urdu and along with Hindi, the state government was working to promote Urdu too. He advised the newly-recruited employees to spread the knowledge of Urdu and help others in attaining more information.
"We believe in communal harmony and brotherhood. We do not want the society to get divided," he said.
CM Nitish in detail talked about the development work and schemes tailored by his government for 1.13 lakh women and development of madrasas, which included funds for building and payment to the teachers of government recognised Madrasas on par with other government teachers. He also advised to teach other subjects to students enrolled in the Madrasas.

"After forming the government, we got a survey done and found that maximum children not attending schools were either from minority or Mahadalit community. After that survey, we started Mahadalit Utthan Kendra and Talimi Markaz," said chief minister Nitish Kumar.
He further said the state government has planned to come with 10+2 residential schools for minority in all the districts on the land belonging to the waqf board. "With folded hands, I urge you all to expedite the process of giving land," said CM Nitish.
Deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav thanked Nitish for handing over the appointment letters to the new recruits. "I had noticed the smile on the faces of those who were getting the appointment letters. Very soon, similar smile will be visible on the faces of lakhs of youths," said Tejashwi.
Finance minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said Urdu was not related to any community, rather it was the symbol of Bhartiyata.
