Ghaziabad: In the case of the AK-47 attack on local
BJP functionary Brijpal Teotia on August 11, the police on Saturday found 10 live AK-47 cartridges in the house of Shekhar Chowdhary, who is currently on police remand.
Revealing his role in the near-fatal attack on Teotia, the police said it was Shekhar, an arms dealer who made available an AK-47, along with cartridges, that was used in the attack.
Shekhar was taken on police remand after he surrendered in court on Monday.
“Shekhar, who is on police remand since Monday, has confessed to having supplied AK-47, along with 42 cartridges, that was eventually used in the attack on Teotia on August 11,” said Rakesh Kumar Pandey, Ghaziabad superintendent of police (rural). “We have recovered 10 cartridges of AK-47 from his hideout,” Pandey said.
Pandey said Shekhar was basically an arms dealer, who provides arms and ammunition to gangs operating in western UP districts. “Shekhar has a wide network in states like Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, from where he procures assault rifles like AK-47 and AK-56 along with cartridges, We are questioning him further to find out more details of his arms racket,” Pandey said.
