Navi Mumbai: A woman was killed after the bike which she was ridding pillion on skid at Chinchpada village in Panvel taluka along Uran-Panvel road on Wednesday.
The victim, Sujata (31), was ridding pillion, while her husband, Hareshwar Patil (36), was riding the bike. He too suffered injuries.
The couple were on their way to their Chinchpada home when their bike suddenly skid as the road was slippery.
Water had been continuously leaking from the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran pipeline. The duo used to sell sell fish at the Panvel market.
Local had rushed the injured couple to MGM hospital in Kamothe where the doctors declared the woman as brought dead. Her husband is recuperating.
Constable Velhe of Kamothe police station said, “The fatal mishap occurred as the bike skid after a four-wheeler coming from opposite direction came close to the bike. Due to this the biker lost control of the vehicle. As the road was slippery due to water leakage from MJP pipeline, the biker skid. The couple sustained severe injuries. While the woman received severe injuries to her head, she died of excessive bleeding.”
Meanwhile, the Panvel city police under whose jurisdiction the
accident occurred was unaware of the incident even after 12 hours.
On the other hand, the Kamothe police station sent a constable to MGM hospital for preparing the deceased woman's inquest report for referring the medico-legal case.
When contacted, the Panvel city police officials said that they have not sent their constable to MGM hospital as the Kamothe police will register a case and will transfer it as a zero case to the Panvel city police station.
Till the time of going to the press, the Panvel city police had not registered an FIR in the case.
