NAVI MUMBAI: The Panvel city police station has been temporarily shifted to a new building about 1 km away, since the old structure is being rebuilt.
DCP (zone-2) Sanjay Singh Yenpure said, “Due to the infrastructure development in Panvel, it has become necessary to reconstruct the city police station with advanced facilities, to cater to the growing population.
So, its has been shifted to the new building in Sai Nagar for three years.”
The old building was built in 1869. While the temporary building has an area of around 3,300 sq ft, the new centralized administrative building will be constructed on an area admeasuring 7,800 sq ft. The four-storey government building, where the police station has been shifted, will be utilized as talathi training centre. It houses the tehsil office on the first floor and the ground floor has been given to the police.
“The reconstructed police station will have a spacious parking lot and rooms for storing weapons and interrogation, among others. We have even planned a training hall. We will also have a hall for accommodating SRPF platoon, summoned for emergency situations,” he added.
Police commissioner K L Prasad said, “The pleasant ambience of the temporary building should develop the personalities of the staff. So, they should see to it that minimum complaints are lodged at the police station by resolving disputes diplomatically and in a legal manner. The citizens visiting the police station should not grumble that the on-duty staff behaved impolitely.”
