NAVI MUMBAI: A
murder accused who was on the run for past seven years has been arrested by the Panvel city police from Erravalli village in Telangana.
Abhay Singh Shinde, police sub-inspector, crime detection branch, Panvel city police, said accused Raju Chinappa Singsani (35) and deceased Mohammad Yusuf Masterali Shaikh (36) were business partners in building construction projects in Kalundre village, Panvel taluka.
Both were neighbours in Chembur. Shaikh owed Singsani Rs3.5 lakh. On June 2, 2016, Singsani took Shaikh to Kalundre village under the pretext of taking up a building construction project. After checking out the project site, Singsani offered Shaikh a liquor treat at an isolated place in the vicinity of the railway tracks.
“As Shaikh got drunk, Singsani stabbed him with a knife on his head and forehead, strangulated him with a cloth and dumped his body in the drainage by the railway tracks near the temple in Kalundre village. Panvel JMFC court remanded Singsani to police custody and he was sent to Taloja jail on Tuesday,” PSI Shinde said.
