Contractor held for negligence after labourer falls to death

NAVI MUMBAI: A civil contractor has been charged with negligence for the death of a labourer and arrested by the Panvel city police on Friday.
The deceased was carrying out painting work on the 11th floor of an under construction building at Karanjade village when he lost balance and fell off the scaffolding. ‘‘The incident took place on September 10.
The victim, Sitasaran Kevat, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Initially, an accidental death report was registered against the contractor, Dara Singh.
However, after preliminary investigations, it was concluded that Kevat fell due to Singh’s negligence, as he did not make any arrangements of knotting the hook to the belt,’’ said PSI Rajiv Baikar.
